Panoramic images are one of those things that anyone can do, if they can toss money at it. It's only doing it on the cheap that takes any real skill. The challenge is parallax error. I'm not going to explain everything here; I've provided links on the topics that are most likely to be ones that you are not familiar with. The solution to parallax error is always pivoting on the lens's entrance pupil.
Consider where the tripod mount is on your camera. Hopefully, it's at least in line with your lens, but it's most likely not on your lens itself, under the entrance pupil. Thus on a tripod, parallax is introduced. There are several solutions, from brackets to robotic heads, but they all tend to be quite expensive.
So, what is a relatively poor amateur to do?
Well, if he is a Humble Woodworker, he DIY's it!

I'll post completed pics here when I finish it, but hit the wlog to follow the design + build process.
